2: 1900 - 4.o Centenário do descobrimento do Brasil.1
A lei no. 559 de 31 de dezembro 1898 autorizou a cunhagem de uma série comemorativa. No ano 1900 as moedas autorizadas foram cunhadas para comemorar que o Brasil foi "descoberto" 400 anos atrais por Pedro Alvares Cabral.  Amoeda de 400 réis tem a imagem numa cruz com a legenda: IN HOC SIGNO VINCES", por este sinal vencerás. A moeda de 1000 réis recebeu uma imagem de Brasília, a mulher que personifica o Brasil. A moeda de 2000 réis tem uma imagem num barco da força naval Portugesa. No céu 5 estrelas da constelacão da Cruz do Sul. A moeda de 4000 réis mostra Cabral "descobrindo" o Brasil. O reverso mostra os escudos de Portugal e Brasil. Sobre estas moedas o nome do Brasil foi escrito certo como Brasil com s. As moedas foram desmonetizadas pela lei no. 1453 de 30 de dezembro de 1905.

Op 31 december 1898 werd middels wet nr. 559 de muntslag goedgekeurd voor een serie herdenking munten. Vervolgens werd in het jaar 1900 deze serie van 4 zilveren munten uitgegeven om te herdenken dat 400 jaar geleden, in 1500, Brazilië werd "ontdekt" door Pedro Alvares Cabral. Op de munt van 400 réis staat een kruis met de tekst: IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, in dit teken zal men overwinnen. De munt van 1000 réis kreeg de afbeelding van Brasilia, de verpersoonlijking van Brazilië. De munt van 2000 réis heeft de afbeelding van een Portugees zeilschip op zee met aan de hemel de 5 sterren van het zuiderkruis. De munt van 4000 réis toont Cabral die aan land gaat. Op de keerzijde het wapen van Portugal en het wapen van Brazilië. Op deze serie munten wordt Brazilië weer geschreven als Brasil met een letter s. De munten werden volgens wet nr. 1453 van 30 december 1905 buiten omloop gesteld.

In the yaer 1900 this series of 4 silver coins was struck to commemorate that 400 years ago, in 1500, Brazil was "dicovered" by Pedro Alvares Cabral. The coin of 400 réis has a cross with the text: IN HOC SIGNO VINCES, in this sign you shall be victorious. The coin of 1000 réis has the bust of Brasilia, the personification of Brazil. The coin of 2000 réis has the image of a Portugese ship at sea with 5 stars in the sky of the constellation southern cross. The coin of 4000 réis shows Cabral setting foot on Brazilian soil for the first time. The reverse shows the arms of Portugal and Brazil. On this series of coins Brazil is written with its original name: Brasil with an s. By law of december 30, 1905 the coins were withdrawn from circulation.
